Early 2019 Todd Newell, Oceaneering’s vice president for global engineering services, stated that the NCS, with its density of fields and developed infrastructure, provided the company’s foremost arena for developing new technology. Consequently, Oceaneering moved their development of Underwater Intervention Drones (UIDs) to Tau Autonomy Center in the summer of 2019 and established their Living Lab focusing on the testing and qualification of their Freedom UID prototype.
